Hey, new puppy parents! Let's grab a cosy spot and talk about a big day that's coming up: the first vet visit.
I know exactly how you're feeling right now. You want to do everything perfectly. You're probably armed with a folder full of paperwork and a head full of worries. Will the vet judge me? Am I feeding them the right thing? Are they growing properly?
Take a deep breath. Look at that sweet little face sleeping next to you. You are doing an incredible job. The vet is your partner in this amazing journey, not someone to fear!
Here is exactly what to expect, and how to champion that first visit:
The Experience
Expect lots of treats, a gentle physical exam (checking heart, eyes, ears, and tummy), and probably a discussion about vaccination schedules and flea/worming treatments. Your puppy might be a bit nervous, and that's okay! Bring some high-value treats and maybe a calming pheromone spray for the car ride.
Questions to Ask:
- Is my puppy at a healthy weight for their breed and age?
- What are the signs of a true emergency vs. something that can wait?
- When is it safe for my puppy to start socializing with other dogs?
I am so immensely grateful to be part of your journey during these crucial early days. Our Vet directory is full of incredible, compassionate professionals recommended by people just like you.
Every time you step into that clinic, you are making a commitment to your puppy's lifelong health. It's a beautiful thing. We are all rooting for you! ๐
